The Algorithm Will Not Save Us

We've been sold a lie: that algorithms are neutral, objective, and fair. The truth is more brutal. Algorithms amplify existing biases, concentrate power, and serve their creators' interests.

"The algorithm will decide." "Trust the algorithm." "The algorithm knows best."
We've been conditioned to treat algorithms like digital gods—omniscient, objective, and benevolent. But algorithms aren't neutral arbiters of truth. They're power structures disguised as mathematics.

The Myth of Algorithmic Objectivity

Algorithms seem objective because they're mathematical. Numbers don't lie, right? Wrong. Algorithms are built by humans, trained on human-generated data, and designed to optimize for human-defined goals. Every step in this process introduces bias.
The algorithm will not save us. But we can save ourselves from the algorithm.
